From period dress to a civil war battle re-enactment,
residents and visitors turned out to celebrate 150
years of Franklin's history. If a man was seen without
a beard, he was tossed into jail outside the courthouse
until he was bailed out. Bail was set at $2.00 for
most, more for others, and all proceeds benefited
the Macon County Historical Society.
The entire Memorial Day weekend was a collage of
events to celebrate the history of Franklin and
to remember those who have served our country defending
our freedoms. Memorial events were held at the American
Legion on Sunday and at the Fine Arts Center on
Monday. The Veteran's Parade was cancelled due to
the weather, but will be held on Veteran's Day in
November.
Also in town was the Traveling 911 Memorial, sponsored
by the local Fraternal Order of Police, and Shenandoah
put on a free concert downtown. The town was bustling
with much to do, see and eat.
Dnet would like to thank all those whose hard work
and effort went into making this weekend a memorable
one. And we would also like to recognize some of
those who came out dressed for the occasion. Enjoy
the pictures below taken on Saturday, and thanks
for visiting us at Dnet.
