The Greatest Basketball Game

The Eclipse

My Church

I will never forget the best basketball game I ever had.  It was a cold night.  There was snow on the ground and I was feeling good.  I looked up at the full moon and kicked through some slush.  When I walked into the Painttown Gym, it was big and bright.  And my eyes squinched.  All my teammates were there and they had on their Birdtown yellow jerseys.  Taz, Jordan, Hunter, Storm, and I were teammates for two years.  Big Y was green.  Big Y’s team had Carr Crowe, Zak Hicks, Ryan Crowe, and some other players.  We were scared because they had a big advantage.  They had twenty good players.  We had only nine.  But we had confidence.  I saw the full moon and I was ready to play the game.

Taz scored the first point of the game with a good layup.  Then they scored.  Then we got the ball back.  Then the battle was on.  Jordan shot an airball shot and missed, but Taz dove for the ball and saved it.  They stuck on us like glue.  And the score kept going back and forth like a yo-yo.  And we were wore out.  Then second quarter ended.   It was a tie game.   They switched players each quarter.  We only switched one player off the bench.  You could tell by the sweat on our heads that it was the hardest we ever played.  I felt like Jell-O when I stood up.  Then we started shooting threes from downtown and the crowd went crazy.  But suddenly Big Y started scoring like a fox after its prey.  Then it hit the Big Y -- the big 4 Q.  They started to foul us out of nowhere.  The coach for Big Y was getting mad.  Then we made a good play that we had to run.  The score was 30 to 30.  During the second half, we played better and juked people out.  The moms and dads were shouting like World War III.  We were playing harder than bigger guys than us.

Then the clock went errrrrrrt?????  We went into overtime. Taz, Jordan, Hunter, Storm, and I kept popping three pointers and the crowd went crazy.  It made us play better.  We got wide open and passed the ball to each other, buzzed all up and down the court.  We shot and a tie game.  And then overtime again.  We went into overtime three times because that is the hardest we ever played.  The third time over and there were 12 seconds left.  It was all up to me to make a 3 pointer.  They passed me the ball.  The clock was ticking.  11, 10, 9, 8, 7…  I passed the ball to Taz.  6, 5, 4, 3… He passed it back to me.  3, 2… I put the ball up.  1, 0… It was all quiet.  The ball went in.  We won 46-45!

My name is Neko.  I am eleven years old.  I am in 4th grade and I go for tutoring at Ms. Parker's.  I like to play basketball and ride my dirt bike.  I play baseball, too.  I like to ride my bicycle at my grandma's house and just play with my little cousins.  And I like to ride my skateboard.  I enjoy swimming, hiking, camping, and fishing.  Once I caught a trophy size large mouth bass.  It was 24 inches long.  I also Indian dance with my dad.
