Long ago, in a Cherokee village, in the mountains, lived the people and Spearfinger.  Spearfinger was an old lady.  She had a long, bony finger. Spearfinger killed people.  She ate their liver, and gobbled it up.  She called the kids and told them she wanted to comb their hair.  She stabbed them with her long, bony finger, and they got sick and weak and died.

She didn't leave a trace.  Whenever she got their liver, you couldn't see a thing.  Whenever Spearfinger took their liver, you couldn't see scars, bruises, or cuts on them.  She could turn into a family member and walk inside the house and take the kid's liver.  The people decided that they had to kill her.

They dug a hole.  They had to put sticks and leaves on it so she couldn't see it.  She turned into a family member and was getting ready to walk into the village.  Then she fell into the trap.  Then they started shooting with bows and arrows at her to kill her.   The arrows bounced off of Spearfinger when they shot her.

A little bird told them, "Shoot her in the heart."  The arrows bounced off.  The titmouse tongue got cut off for telling a fib.  The chickadee landed on Spearfinger's hand.  The chickadee said, "Shoot her in the finger."

She got killed.   The people were happy when she died.  Then they could go by themselves to places.  No one would get killed by Spearfinger.
